TLC opens Community Scrapstore Bridport TLC have launched their latest scheme to keep materials out of landfill and make them available for re-use.
The opening of an ‘Arts & Crafts Scrapstore’ on St. Michaels Trading Estate makes useful items available to artists, schools and individuals and has a large range of card, paper, decorative materials and cloth that has been collected from local businesses.
Tess Dickson, a volunteer who founded the recycling initiative with others four years ago said “Over the last few months we have been sorting out loads of clean useful materials in time for Christmas. Anyone who wants to make their own cards, presents decorations and wrapping paper can join our scheme as a member and get cheap materials for a donation towards our running costs.”
Visitors can also buy some of the shopping bags and decorations designed by Tess and made by volunteers from local waste materials.
The Scrapstore was opened by Marc Parrett and Niki McCretton, talented geniuses of ‘Stuff and Nonsense’ Theatre Company along with TLC volunteers. Marc said “This is a wonderful resource for the many creative people in Bridport. It is particularly good for us as we try to re-use as many materials and items for our shows and props as possible – and very convenient as we are almost next door!”
The Arts & Crafts Scrapstore at The Studio, 48a St, Michaels Trading Estate is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am-3pm. It has a membership scheme for individuals and schools/playgroups and other organisations.
