This project has been generously funded by Magna Housing Association and Groves Nurseries. Bridport TLC has teamed up with Groves Nurseries and MAGNA Housing Association to provide two bicycle rickshaws, one for collections and deliveries and one for passengers.
The Cargo Rickshaw has been funded by local businessman Clive Groves of Groves Nurseries and is used to collect recyclable business waste including used vegetable oil, which we turn into environmentally-friendly Biodiesel. It is also available to collect and deliver goods and waste to and from Bridport households. The Passenger Rickshaw has been funded by MAGNA Housing Association. It is used primarily by Magna tenants, who can benefit from a low cost, carbon-free taxi service in and around town. During the summer we plan to provide a shuttle service between Bridport and West Bay. If your business is interested in sponsoring further head-turning transport please contact the office. Both Rickshaws are driven by volunteers who are licensed, CRB-checked and fully insured. The scheme is co-ordinated by Rosie Jones. The Cargo Rickshaw has already been put to good use in 2008 with the Christmas Tree Recycling service we offered. Many Christmas Trees end up in landfill, on street and in gardens. So volunteers collected them from Bridport residents, using the Cargo Rickshaw. They were then taken to Groves Nurseries and shredded, recycled and used as mulch or weed suppressant. Altogether over 150 trees were recycled. If you would like to book either the Cargo or the Passenger Rickshaw please call 01308 425916 with at least 24 hours notice to arrange.
